Sunday Sessions
Context
Sunday Sessions is part of La Roca’s broader push to become more inclusive and welcoming to climbers who identify as women, non-binary and gender fluid. While bouldering is growing across different communities, the culture can still read as macho and intimidating to people who are new to the space.
Created by Lauren Marc, Sunday Sessions is a monthly Sunday morning event held outside typical opening hours for climbers who prefer a quieter, more supportive environment. The sessions also include small workshops shaped by member requests, covering topics like injury prevention, strength training and other practical tools for climbing.
Challenge
The identity needed to sit under the La Roca umbrella but clearly signal that this was a different kind of experience. It had to feel warm, low-pressure and community-led, without looking separate or disconnected from the gym.
We also needed a flexible system that could live across social posts, posters, signage and small-run merch, while keeping the tone friendly and approachable.
Solution
I developed a visual identity that leaned into colour, texture and hands-on making. To move away from the sharper, more intense cues often associated with climbing branding, I used playful palettes and tactile elements that felt human and relaxed.
Most of the core assets were created using Risograph printing. The limited spot colours and semi-transparent layering brought a natural softness, while the slight misalignment between layers became a deliberate feature. It kept the visuals soft, approachable and a little less polished.
